‘Gangs of Northeast’ is all set to hit the screens with a bang!

 |

Cine-goers of present times always desire to taste films that are distinct from the typical ones. Although there are numerous films lined up for release in the coming days, yet there is a flick which would set up a new trend in the entire North-eastern region. Directed by Rupak Gogoi, Gangs of Northeast is an upcoming Indian romantic action thriller movie which is going to hit the theatres by the end of April, 2017. Co-produced by Sanjive Narain and Kenny Lyngdoh under the banner of AM Television and Tunein Infotainment, this film has already created buzz with its amazing trailer and eye-catchy posters.

This is for the first time a film has been made in Hindi and Khasi language.  It is clear from the teaser promo that the film has been built in a unique mode with a smart cinematic look. The film stars Miss International India fame model Rewati Chetri, popular actors Vivek Bora, Udayan Duwara and Fairypriya Ahmed in lead roles. The supportive cast includes Albert Mawrie, Manimala Das, Pradhan Dueri, Chiranjeeb Dutta, Robindra Rajkumar, Emsalon Jana Nongbet, Anna Taying and Florence Handique. Along with its bracing new look, the film amalgamates some colourful and lethal action sequences designed by Pradhan Dueri.

Shot in some magnificent locations, the film unites the sentiments and lifestyle of Northeast India.  The story of the film revolves around the life of a teenage girl and her single mother in the majestic land of Shillong, and how everything changes when fate has got something else for them, reconnecting their past. The script has been penned by Avishka Phukan. Papu Deka is the director of photography while Ratan Sil Sarma is the editor. The film comprises of several artistes and technicians, young independent spirits, hailing from Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland. The film's music is being scored by Assam's heartthrob singer Zubeen Garg, Benjamin and Deepak Sarkar, while the background music is been composed by Poran Borkatoky(Jojo). The songs are being choreographed by Deepak Dey. The playback singing is being done by Zubeen Garg, Kabirruddin, Sapna Pathak, Anisha Lalu and Saint Dominic Kayer.

In a close encounter with the director Rupak Gogoi, he states the Gangs of Northeast is the first movie that represents the entire Northeastern India. A melting pot for talents of the Northeast, he feels that this film is the first ever attempt to expand the radius of exhibition from only a few districts of Brahmaputra valley to the entire Northeastern region. He believes that the new-age audience will have a whale of a time with the fresh teenage romance in the backdrop of an action drama, which will be portrayed by the very talented Femina Miss India finalist Rewati Chetri along with chocolate boy Vivek Bora. He also added that Fairypriya Ahmed has delivered a powerful performance in the movie. Other key factors of this movie are the superb cinematography by Papu Deka, Pradhan Deuri's stunning raw action along with an engaging screenplay by Avishka Phukan.

A Still from the movie

There is no doubt that debutant director Rupak Gogoi has given his level best to meet the minds of the cine-viewers of today's world. Although it's his first film in the direction department, he has a handful of experiences in different fields in the world of television and films. Starting his career as an assistant director to Sanjeev Hazarika in the feature film Mimanxa, he went on to work in the television production and programming circuit in leading national channels including Star TV network (Star Jalsha) and  Zee TV network for many years. He was fortunate to undergo an internship with eminent film director Govind Nihalani during his tenure as a mass communication student in Pune University. Lastly, he was associated with our very own popular Assamese media channels like Rengoni, Prag News, Focus Hifi as a program and content head.

It seems that for the first time, the audience will get the experience of watching a pure Northeastern movie where all its features and components are wholly connected to the culture and emotions of our native land. In an age where cinema is considered as a powerful medium of connecting the world, let's hope that Gangs of Northeast brings a new light to the identity of Northeast India.
