Covid-19 vaccination for 15-18 age group begins in Mizoram

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had on December 25, announced vaccination drive for the above-mentioned categories starting from January 3, 2022, and the administration of precautionary third dose for the vulnerable categories starting from January 10, 2022.

Along with the rest of the country, Covid-19 vaccination drive for the age group of 15 to 18 years began in Mizoram on January 3.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had on December 25, announced vaccination drive for the above-mentioned categories starting from January 3, 2022, and the administration of precautionary third dose for the vulnerable categories starting from January 10, 2022.

Attending the vaccination programme at PC Girl’s School, Mission Veng, Mizoram health minister, R Lalthangliana, said vaccination of teenagers is a significant development in the fight against Covid-19 pandemic and he urged all beneficiaries to get their shots.

“As most of the people in this age group are students, it would be a good idea to conduct vaccination drive in schools,” he said.

Adding that besides vaccination other factors also go a long way in containing the virus, he said, "Getting vaccines does not mean we can be negligent against the virus, but we must continue to follow Covid appropriate behaviour like wearing masks, regular washing of hands and maintaining social distance.”

Meanwhile, Mission Director, National Health Mission, Dr  Eric Zomawia, informed that 67,000 doses of Covaxin reached Mizoram on December 30 for the vaccination of teenagers.

He informed that the vaccination drive could not be launched in other districts of Mizoram on December 3 due to the Christmas and New Year holidays, and it but will be launched by the end of this week.

Notably, it was informed that Mizoram has around one lakh people falling under the 15-18 age group.
