Assam Rifles recovers heroin from Mizoram's Champhai district

Troopers of Assam Rifles seized heroin worth Rs 1 crore from a village close to the India-Myanmar border on Friday, an official statement said.

According to the statement, the operation was jointly carried out by the Serchhip battalion of 23 sector Assam Rifles and officials of the Customs Department. Acting on a tip-off, they raided Ruantlang village in Mizoram's Champhai district and seized 250 gm of heroin.

The recovered contraband was handed over to the Customs officials.

The statement also added that drug smuggling along the India-Myanmar border is a major cause of concern for Mizoram.
