Women in Rural Meghalaya: The Story of Eri Silk Weavers

This video documents a group of village women rearing 'Eri Silk' in Ri Bhoi, Meghalaya. Interestingly, this silk is also known as 'endi' or 'errandi' and is found in northeast India and also in parts of Japan and China.

Being eco-friendly, the eri silk is one of the most respected fabrics of the local tribal people of Meghalaya. Weaving the eri silk yarns and the process of dyeing them comes with a rich traditional history. It's fascinating to see how this culture lives on.
