SHILLONG:

Vaccine hesitancy in rural Meghalaya has become a major cause of concern for the government even as the state sees no respite from the spike of COVID cases.

To understand the gravity of the situation and to debunk misinformation, Sohiong MLA Samlin Malngiang held a meeting with the Block Development Officer (BDO), Church leaders and traditional heads recently.

According to him, the rural populace was apprehensive about taking the vaccine because of "misleading" information.

Speaking to The Northeast Today (TNT), Malngiang said, “The rural folks do not like to take the vaccination as there are some who are spreading misleading information about the vaccine. We cannot force the people but, we are trying to sensitise them about the vaccination. The positive cases are increasing day by day and, we have urged the people to take the vaccine.”

The legislator had taken the first dose of the vaccine in April and urged the people to come forward and shed their fear concerning the vaccine.
