Truck, "illegally" transporting coal, overturns in Byrnihat; police register suo moto case
Police said that the truck was transporting over 10 tons of coal and it overturned at 18th Mile near Byrnihat Police Outpost.
NONGPOH:
Ri Bhoi police on Thursday registered a suo moto case against three persons after a truck, illegally transporting coal, turned turtle at Byrnihat on Wednesday evening.
The police have registered a case against the owner of the truck, its driver and the person who had supplied the coal.
Police said that the truck was transporting over 10 tons of coal and it overturned at 18th Mile near Byrnihat Police Outpost.
On receiving information, police rushed to the spot and seized the vehicle along with the coal, but the driver managed to flee the scene.
This incident has once again brought to light the issue of illegal transportation of coal in Meghalaya.
