Three-day international conference on agriculture, sustainable farming begins in Ri Bhoi

The first day of the conference witnessed 200 representatives from 21 states of India submitting their research findings, and participation of eminent scientists from different countries. Besides, the physical presence of 50 delegates, 100 delegates attended the event virtually.

The three day international conference on “Integrated Agriculture, Natural Farming, Biodiversity Conservation and Rural Bio-Entrepreneurship under Changing Climate Scenario” started at the College of Agriculture, Kyrdemkulai, Ri-Bhoi, on December 7.

Organised jointly by the Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS), Barapani, International Union of Organic Agriculture, Shillong, in collaboration with Indian Council of Agricultural Research,Research (ICAR), Umiam, North East Centre for Technology Application and Reach (NECTAR), and North Eastern Council (NEC), Shillong, the conference deliberated on climate change and its affect on farming.

The first day of the conference witnessed 200 representatives from 21 states of India submitting their research findings, and participation of eminent scientists from different countries. Besides, the physical presence of 50 delegates, 100 delegates attended the event virtually.

Delivering the inaugural speech as a chief guest, ICAR Director, Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, emphasised on climate resilient agro-techniques for the sustainable development of farming activities in the 21st century, with focus on promoting bio-entrepreneurship.

Scientists at the inaugural programme, also discussed on sustainable agriculture, and  continuous improvement in all areas of a farming business through informed management processes.

The conference also highlighted the importance of integrated farming which combines the best of modern tools and technologies with traditional practices for improving farming.
