SHILLONG:

The decision of the state government to outsource 56 numbers of 33/11 KV sub-stations that are under the purview of Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL) to M/S Broadcasting Engineering Consultants India Limited (BECIL) has not gone well with KSU, FKJGP, RBYF and HNYF.

In a statement issued here, the four organizations said that the government acted indifferently without paying heed to the opposition from a section of the public including the civil societies.

The organizations stated that they had written to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and one of the points was that the state government has to pay Rs 3,75,000 per month.

The organizations also argued that outsourcing will render the qualified local youth unemployed. The organizations were peeved that despite the letter sent to the CM, the Letter of Award was issued to the company.

The four organizations have asked the state government to cancel the Letter of Award and threatened to agitate after the pandemic.

The organizations also warned BECIL to not take over the sub-stations without consulting the people of the state.
