Stipend of NEIAH interns will be at par with National Institute of Ayurveda: Union Minister Sonowal

Union Minister of AYUSH Sarbananda Sonowal accepted the demands of interns at the North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homeopathy (NEIAH) and said their stipends will be at par with the National Institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur.

He said that with the implementation of new initiatives, the students, interns, the research scholars, the teachers will be able to ensure that NEIAH gets international recognition.

He said that more initiatives will be taken to upgrade NEIAH, which includes starting post-graduation courses, after the required infrastructure is complete. 

Considering the available "potentialities, possibilities, and prosperities of the Northeast", Sonowal said that the region will be the new engine for India’s growth.

Stressing on the importance of medicinal plants, he appealed to the people of Northeast to concentrate on herbal and medicinal plantation. 

Sonowal has assured that knowledge of traditional healers in the state will also be taken into account and they can report to the NEIAH as well. 

Sonowal, who is also the Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, said, “I have requested the government of Meghalaya to prepare a proposal to promote the (Umiam) lake. If we get a suitable proposal, then the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, will definitely look into the matter.”
