SHILLONG:

Working president of the United Democratic Party (UDP), Paul Lyngdoh said that the major challenge in front of the state government right now is to restore peace and confidence in the people of the state.

“The most obvious challenge the government is facing right now is to restore law and order and people’s confidence in the system, which got a severe hit post the August 13 incident,” he told The Northeast Today (TNT).

Stating that the decision to set up a judicial enquiry into the Cherish S encounter is a step in the right direction, Lyngdoh said, "The inquiry has to be done in a time-bound manner only then the government will be able to restore people's faith in the system .”

Meanwhile, Congress MLA Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh has lauded the initiative undertaken by Dorbar Pyllun of Mawlai to restore peace in the area by opting to hold a meeting with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Monday.

“We must appreciate this voluntary cooperation of the Mawlai dorbar. In my opinion, we should not further extend the curfew,” she said.

Earlier, CM Sangma informed that the curfew will be relaxed in Shillong from 6 am to 4 pm starting Wednesday.
