SHILLONG:

The Shillong Press Club (SPC) has filed an FIR with the Superintendent of Police East Khasi Hills, against one Lester J.K. Ryngki for posting an objectionable remark that tantamounts to "direct incitement of hatred and mayhem against the press fraternity" on social media.

He had posted the "incriminatory" statement - ‘KA SUR U PAIDBAH’ - on one of the Facebook pages. Ryngki’s remark loosely translates to "the HNLC should act on them (press) as action speaks louder than words." He had further added that the press cannot be trusted.

In the FIR, the SPC has sought the intervention of the police stating that it is time that "such evil thoughts, ideas, and reckless statements are put under a proper scanner by the designated authority".

Meanwhile, the person, after getting to know about SPC’s FIR, has apologised on the social media website.

Recently, the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), through a press release, issued soon after the Laitumkhrah bomb blast on August 10, had threatened the journalist fraternity for not publishing their bandh calls.
