SHILLONG:

Petrol bombs were hurled by miscreants at the residence of Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma in Laimer, 3rd Mile Upper Shillong, on late Sunday evening. No one was hurt in the incident.

Sources informed that two petrol bombs were hurled from a distance by four unidentified youth who fled the scene following the act.

The miscreants targeted the house from the front and the back. While two of them threw a bomb in the backyard, the other two targeted the side of the house facing the road.

The bomb that fell in the backyard exploded but was quickly doused, while the other landed inside the campus, a little far from the house, and did not cause any damages. The police are currently assessing the damage caused.

The incident comes at a time when a curfew and an internet ban has been imposed in Shillong following a breakdown of law-and-order in some parts of the city over the recent police encounter of a former leader of Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), Cheristerfield Thangkhiew, who was killed in the wee hours of August 13.
