SHILLONG:

Amid the political ruckus surrounding the Pegasus spyware controversy, the Meghalaya Congress is yet to decide on any protest plans that are in line with the grand old party's nationwide agitation.

Congress Spokesperson Zenith Sangma on Wednesday said the state party unit is appalled by the shocking revelations vis-a-vis Pegasus snooping issue and will support the move of the party high command in protesting against the alleged snooping act.

"Such snooping is unconstitutional that violates fundamental rights and rights to privacy," he said.

The Congress will be holding a series of agitation across the country on July 22.

When asked whether any prominent personalities of Meghalaya became a target of the spyware, Sangma maintained that prominent leaders from across the country are being targeted, and the entire list has not been made public.

“We never know, one or two might have been targeted because the entire list is not with us. When this kind of modus operandi is found, then we can always assume that the prominent leaders from any state from across the country may be targeted,” he said.

Congress has demanded a judicial probe to be monitored by the Supreme Court to unearth the truth surrounding the entire Pegasus scandal.
