Nagaland launches motion classroom teaching and resource project

The Nagaland education department, with the assistance of the World Bank, has started the Nagaland Enhancing Classroom Teaching and Resource project to bring about improvement in the management, improvement in teaching and learning in target schools and also raise the pass rate for target schools in higher classes.

Informing this on the first day of the 47th biennial conference of the Sumi Aphuyemi Kiphimi Kuqhakulu (SAKK) at Tukuliqa village in Zunheboto district on Wednesday, adviser to school education KT Sukhalu said the project is expected to pilot several innovations in teacher management, community accountability and improve classroom transactions. It will also develop and implement innovative models for technology integration, decentralised management of the education system, and community-driven accountability mechanisms, he added.

Sukhalu observed that the education system in Nagaland is facing several challenges as reflected in the decline of student learning outcomes measured by the National Achievement Survey.

He said according to the Government of India’s Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE), the total number of government schools from primary to higher secondary level in the state in 2021 was 1953 with 19,079 teachers and 1,66,091 enrolled students.

Saying that it depends on the individual to achieve something in life, Sukhalu urged the youths to change their mindset if they want to move forward.

“Development is necessary but the most important thing in life is to be wise and follow the dreams according to one’s liking and interest,” he stated.

Sukhalu, who is a retired IAS officer, urged the youths to have a purpose in life and to be sincere in their work and not lose their tracks.

“Work with honesty, integrity and responsibility and bring a change in our society,” he stressed.

The three-day SAKK conference is being held on the theme “Let us reason together”. A special song by Jennifer Wotsa and cultural dance by Ghokimi cultural troupe were the main highlights of the inaugural programme of the conference.
