SHILLONG:

Brushing aside reports of infighting within the party, the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Vincent Pala is confident that Congress leader Mukul Sangma will not leave the party come what may.

Reacting to reports that Sangma has met senior Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee on September 21 in Kolkata, Pala said, “I don’t think so. He is a senior leader and he knows the consequences if he does so. I am sure he will not leave the party.”

Asked, about infighting in the Congress, he said that there is no infighting within the party, and added that he was inducted as a president of the party on Saturday.

Meanwhile, echoing Pala, Congress working president Ampareen Lyngdoh said that Sangma, being a senior leader, will not make such a move.

“Why are we doubting his (Sangma) loyalty?” she asked.

Sources said that Sangma is on his way from Guwahati to Shillong on September 22 evening.
