Meghalaya's Mission Jackfruit set to get big push; Technology Incubation Centre soon in Tura

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday said the government under its flagship programme, “Jackfruit Mission” is working on a number of interventions to promote value-added jackfruit products in the State.

Speaking at the “Nano Jackfruit Entrepreneurs” event at College of Community Science, Sangma said that with jackfruit grown abundantly in the state, the mission which was launched in 2018 was with a view in creating better livelihood, value chain, etc.

“The mission will be a game-changer as the demand for jackfruit products in the international market are very high,” he said.

Chief Minister Sangma also informed about the CM Support for Producers Group, wherein Rs 5000 each is provided to individuals who collectively come together to form a group.

“Under the programme, each individual entrepreneur or farmer with similar interest can join and avail the support to further their entrepreneurial activities or use it as a startup fund to accelerate their venture,” he said.

Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh highlighted the food and nutritional value and said streamlining of jackfruit processing will be achieved under the able leadership of the Chief Minister.

During the interactive session with entrepreneurs, the Chief Minister also informed that a Technology Incubation Centre is coming up at the College of Community Science in Tura.
