Meghalaya: Tributes pour in for Captain K Clifford Nongrum on his 22nd death anniversary

The Government of India decorated Nongrum with the Maha Vir Chakra, India's second-highest gallantry award for his bravery, indomitable spirit and supreme sacrifice

The Ministry of Defence and the Meghalaya Government, on Thursday, paid tribute to Late Captain Keishing Clifford Nongrum on his 22nd death anniversary.

Nongrum, hailed as a brave son of Meghalaya, was an Indian Army Officer of 12 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry, who laid down his life for the nation during the 1999 Kargil War.

He led his team with honour and was one of the many officers who offered supreme sacrifice during the critical Kargil Operation in the treacherous terrain in the Batalik sector.

The Government of India decorated Nongrum with the Maha Vir Chakra, India's second-highest gallantry award for his bravery, indomitable spirit and supreme sacrifice.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma paid tribute to the brave captain and said, "On his 22nd death anniversary, we pay our tribute to Capt. Keishing Clifford Nongrum- Meghalaya's brave son and India's soldier who sacrificed his life during the #KargilWar."

Similarly, the Ministry of Defence offered tribute to the brave captain on his punyatithi, "Remembering #KargilHero Capt Clifford Keishing Nongrum, MVC (P) on his death anniversary today. The brave son of Meghalaya was awarded “Maha Vir Chakra” for his exceptional bravery, indomitable spirit & supreme sacrifice in #Op_Vijay."
