SHILLONG:

Congress MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh said that the Director General of Police (DGP) informed the Committee of Women Empowerment (CWE) that investigation of an alleged assault case concerning a legislator is proceeding as per law and that a case has been registered on June 1.

Ampareen, who heads the CWE, said that the DGP was asked to protect the name and identity of the alleged victim as there have been attempts to shame the victim.

“We have requested the police to study the attempts to shame the victim because this in itself is a violation of law. Nobody should disclose the name of the victim,” she said.

She also added that the CWE will attempt to investigate whether the victim has adequate legal aid.
