SHILLONG:

The Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills (EKH) district, Isawanda Laloo, has directed all taxi drivers to comply with the seating capacity as prescribed by the Transport Department.

In an order issued on Wednesday, Laloo said that complaints had surfaced concerning the flouting of COVID-19 protocols by taxi drivers.

"Taxi drivers should wear masks without fail and use hand sanitiser regularly. Passengers can report any violation by sharing the vehicle details to this office or the nearest police station," the order stated.

Besides this, the order stated that taxi drivers must display the rate chart published by the district transport officer prominently inside the vehicle for passengers.

"The district transport officer will carry out frequent checks on the same, and any violation may result in the suspension of license. Laxity in following COVID-19 protocols will be met with stringent action," it added.
