Meghalaya SSA teachers hold sit-in protest to press for fulfillment of their demands

"For three and a half years we have been cooperating with the government. But today we are holding our first protest and we are doing it on behalf of all the 12,541 SSA teachers. If the government fails to fulfill our demands by September 30, we will intensify our agitation," said Aristotle C. Rymbai, president of the association.

Members of the Meghalaya Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) Schools Association held a sit-in protest against the government’s delay in fulfilling their charter of demands at Malki Ground, Shillong, on Tuesday.

The association demanded the implementation of a salary structure for 12,541 SSA teachers, creation of new posts, and shifting of all existing SSA teachers from State Implementation Society (SIS) to State Education Department as regular teachers as per the norms of RTE ACT, 2009, and SSA-RTE. The association also demanded the release of the teacher's pending salaries for June to August 2021.
