Meghalaya Speaker seeks closure of Lower & Upper Primary schools in entire state

Earlier today, the state government announced the suspension of classes from Nursery to class XII for 14 days while Board examinations are to continue.

Meghalaya Assembly Speaker and MLA from Mairang Metbah Lyngdoh requested Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to close Lower Primary and Upper Primary schools in the state because of the surge in COVID cases.

In a letter to the Chief Minister, Lyngdoh expressed his concern about the rise of positive cases in the country and the state.

Observing that to further contain and prevent the spread of the virus, he said, “... I have received many feedbacks and opinions from all sections of society, it is of the view that all Lower and Upper Primary School in the state may be closed down for some time.”

Lyngdoh said, “Last year, together we had made a humble attempt in containing the spread of the virus, may we continue with the spirit of unity in working together for the interest of the people of the state”.
