Meghalaya: Shillong schools to remain shut for 14 days, board exams to continue

The move comes amidst rising number of cases in the state with East Khasi Hills reporting 470 cases (as of April 18), the highest compared to any other district.

The Meghalaya government on Monday announced that schools in Shillong will be closed for 14 days starting April 20 amidst growing cases of COVID-19 in the city. 

 

Briefing media persons in Shillong, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma however said that the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) and the Secondary School Leaving Certificate examinations (SSLC) will continue as scheduled. 

 

Last week, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui had said that offline mode of classes would continue for all classes, except for students till class V, for whom it was kept optional. 

 

The move comes amidst rising number of cases in the state with East Khasi Hills reporting 470 cases (as of April 18), the highest compared to any other district. 

 

The total active cases in Meghalaya stand at 754.
