Replying to a query, Deputy Chief Minister also informed that the new Dawki bridge will not be constructed in the same place adding that they have already made a new alignment for the construction of the new bridge which is in the upper stream.

It may be recalled that the construction of the new Dawki bridge has been pending for so many years. The two-lane bridge is expected to replace the single-lane 136-meter suspension bridge built by the British as the overland link between the provinces of East Bengal and Assam.

Earlier, the Defence authorities had agreed to part with the land for construction and up-gradation of the Shillong-Tamabil road.
