Meghalaya: Umsaw LP School in West Khasi Hills celebrates Golden Jubilee

 Founded in 1971, Umsaw Presbyterian LP School has become one of the oldest schools in the area.

Umsaw Presbyterian Lower Primary School in Nongstion under West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya celebrated its Golden Jubilee on Thursday, April 1.  

Nongstoin legislator and Chairman of the Meghalaya State Law Commission, Macmillan Byrsat, attended the programme as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Byrsat lauded the efforts of the founder and pioneers of the school to serve the poor and needy students of the area.

"Running the school for 50 years is (not an easy task) and, there are many ups and downs," Byrsat said.

He also informed that discussions were held with Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and the North Eastern Council (NEC) on the improvement of private schools under the Nongstoin constituency.
 
He acknowledged the Christian missionaries' contribution to imparting quality education in the country.

The event ended on a colourful note, with songs and other entertainment items performed by the students.
