NONGPOH:

Amid the surge in COVID-19 cases and imposition of lockdown for the past few weeks in Ri Bhoi, Meghalaya, the public is faced with new hurdles as ATMs across the district are reported to be running out of cash.

Residents of Ri Bhoi district, after being forced to lock themselves at home following the imposition of containment measures to contain the spread of the virus, are facing difficulties in availing cash from ATMs to meet their demands such as purchasing essential commodities.

It was reported that people were seen lining up in front of the ATMs to take out cash but had to return home empty-handed since the machines were running dry.

It may be noted that the rapid surge in the COVID-19 cases in the country and many states in the Northeast had compelled the Meghalaya government to enforced a lockdown in East Khasi Hills and other containment measures in different parts of the state.
