NONGPOH:

The Ri Bhoi Tourism and Environmental Development Forum (RBTEDF) on Wednesday expressed grief over the illegal burning of forests in various parts of Ri Bhoi District in Meghalaya.

Chairman of the RBT&EDF, Plielad Tiewsoh said that they are concerned to see the rampant burning of forests taking place regularly every year.

The representatives of the forum have urged the concerned department to look into the matter seriously.

“Burning of the forest will not only lead to the destruction of the environment but will vastly affect other wildlife and medicinal plants available in the forest in our district,” Tiewsoh added.

He added the Forum has been very keen enough to extend its support to the government department concern with protecting the environment.

The forum has urged the state government and village authorities to take a serious note to protect the environment.
