NONGPOH:

The Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi District, R.M Kurbah, has issued new, protocols for wearing masks to contain the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 or COVID-19 in the District.

She informed the general public that proper use, storage and cleaning or disposal of masks is essential to make them as effective as possible, along with adherence to other Covid-19 appropriate behaviour such as physical distancing, keeping the room well ventilated, avoiding crowds, hand washing, and coughing into a bent elbow or tissue.

Kurbah also requested the people to follow all the instructions such as any person aged 2 years and above should wear a three-ply surgical mask or N-95 mask or mask made up of three layers of cotton cloth.

“Mask made of plastic or leather or that is loosely woven and let light pass through or made with only one layer of fabric or wrapping a scarf/muffler over the face is not recommended, mask users must clean their hands before putting a mask on or mask off and should be ensured the mask covers the nose, mouth and chin, store it in a clean place and wash them every day before use,” she informed.

Moreover, a COVID-19 positive person, caretakers of COVID patients under home isolation, healthcare workers, awaiting COVID-19 test results are advised to wear N-95 mask and adhere to all safety protocols.

However, disposable masks must be kept in a paper bag for a minimum of 72 hours and cut before disposal as general waste, as recommended by the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016.
