SHILLONG:

A section of the Meghalaya Teacher Eligibility Test (MTET)-qualified candidates of the 2019 batch has petitioned the Director of Directorate of Educational Research and Training (DERT) to extend the validity period of the MTET 2019 certificate from a period of two years to seven years.

The candidates referred to the notification issued by the State Education Department on October 8, 2018, which states that the validity of the MTET certificate shall be two years unless extended by the State Government and not beyond seven years or, till the next MTET is conducted, whichever is earlier.

They stated that the qualified candidates, who appeared for D.El.Ed from the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), were not allowed to sit for the personal interview conducted by the Education Department recently, for filling up the vacant post in Government Lower Primary and Upper Primary Schools across the State.

"We were not allowed to appear for the interview due to errors of marks in D.El.Ed Marksheets and failure to produce the original D.El.Ed completion certificate though we received the calling letter to appear for the interview," the statement issued by the candidates read.

Referring to the statement made by the Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on the MTET examination to be conducted very soon, the qualified candidates suggested the extension of the validity period to allow an MTET-qualified candidate to re-appear in the next MTET exams.
