SHILLONG:

A day after cabinet minister MLA Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar’s name surfaced as one of the owners of a coke factory in Elaka Sutnga, the Mawkyrwat MLA withdrew his name from the joint partnership of coke plant, on Tuesday.

"Since the factory is not completely under my name, and as I have a partial involvement in the ownership, I have no problem pulling out of from the ownership given the displeasure people have expressed over my involvement," said Tongkhar.

Stating that illegal coke factories should not be allowed in the state, Tongkhar said that the government through the Meghalaya Pollution Control Board (MPCB) should curb setting up of unauthorized coke plants.

Tongkhar however, opined that those coke factories which are set up under the legal framework must function in adherence to the guidelines of the Pollution Control Board (PCB).
