Meghalaya: PDF delegation apprise NEHU VC over university performance in NIRF rankings

“NEHU ranking has been dismal in NIRF. It started with a promising 15th rank dwindling to the 90th position. The performance can be attributed to the scarcity of teachers as there are no full-time professors," said general secretary of PDF, Auspicious Lyngdoh Mawphlang.

SHILLONG:

Members of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) met the Vice-Chancellor of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Prabha Shankar Shukla to apprise him about the dismal performance of the university in the NIRF rankings, on Thursday.

The members also discussed vacant posts, allocation of funds for academic activities, increasing seats in Physical and Life Science departments with the VC.

“NEHU ranking has been dismal in NIRF. It started with a promising 15th rank dwindling to the 90th position. The performance can be attributed to the scarcity of teachers as there are no full-time professors," said general secretary of PDF, Auspicious Lyngdoh Mawphlang.

Turning to other issues, Mawphlang pointed that NEHU should come up with job-oriented departments such as Fisheries, Geo Informatic System, Forestry, Animal Husbandry, Food Processing, Rural Development and other vocational courses for uplifting the job prospects of students in the state.

Speaking about the fee structure, Mawphlang said that there is a need to reduce the fee structure of the different professional courses offered by the School of Technology.
