Meghalaya: NHIDCL hands over NH-44E project in SWKH to Global Infra Solutions

The National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL), on Saturday, handed over the National Highway 44E road project from Mawngap to Khadphra (Ranikor) to Global Infra Solutions which will now be tasked with the preparation of the land survey and the detailed project report (DPR).

Global Infra Solutions will work on the project in collaboration with Dhruv Consultancy Services Limited and Infycons Creative Software Pvt. Ltd.

The NHIDCL announced its decision during a public consultation meeting organised in collaboration with the office of the Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills.

According to Global Infra Solutions, the road project will start from Mawngap via Mawphlang, Laitmusiang, Mawkyrwat, Rangthong, Nongnah, Dirang till Khadphra Ranikor with a length of 98.291 kilometres. The speed limit of the road will be 60 kilometres per hour with a total transit time of 90 to 120 minutes and a carriageway width of around 3 to 7 metres.

The new road project will pass through several paddy fields, forests and the existing roads. However, the company will try to bypass villages, markets, school, churches and minimize damages to the environment. There will be around 150 junctions and intersections with 36 bridges along the road.

Speaking on the occasion, Mawkyrwat MLA Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, expressed his happiness in knowing that the long-awaited road project will see the light of day.

He called upon the Himas, village authorities and pressure groups to cooperate with the District Administration and the company in assisting in the project's completion.

Tongkhar also urged Global Infra Solutions to be more practical while conducting the land survey and while preparing the DPR, and to try reducing the road curve as much as possible.

Others present during the meeting include Ranikor MLA Pius Marwein, the Deputy Commissioner of SWKHD, Isawanda Laloo and other dignitaries.
