TURA:

Employees under the aegis of the Non-Gazetted Employees’ Association (NGEA) began their 3-day hunger strike at the premises of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council, Meghalaya on Wednesday.

According to sources, the three-day fasting will begin each day from 10 am and will continue to 5 pm.

The latest in the agitation over their pending salaries began on Wednesday after the GHADC or the state government gave no assurances to ensure payment of their over 30 months pending dues.

“As there has been no written assurance given by the Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, over our pending salaries, we will continue this protest through a hunger strike. We have tried various ways to get what is rightly due to us with no success. These include non-cooperation, black badge etc,” said NGEA secretary, Brithen Sangma.
