SHILLONG:

The Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) has officially withdrawn load-shedding and ensured 24-hour power supply to all parts of the state with immediate effect.

In a notification issued on Monday, the MeECL Chairman cum Managing Director (CMD) Arunkumar Kembhavi stated that though it had unofficially withdrawn the load shedding from May 1, 2021, however, there were still some disruptions in the regular power supply across the state.

"Despite pre-monsoon showers, our internal power generation has reached only 60 MW as against the installed capacity of 350 MW. We hope to reach near full capacity only by June-July. One unit of OTPC is still under preventive maintenance. NEEPCO hydro plants are also under-supplying for want of rain." the CMD said.

Kembhavi further stated that they are committed to ensuring reliable power supply during these difficult times to hospitals, power plants, vaccine storage units and to everyone for whom power becomes a necessity at such crucial times.
