SHILLONG:

Major reshuffling was witnessed in the MeECL on Monday with ACS (Home) taking over as CMD replacing incumbent Arun Kumar Kembhavi.

“Have already passed orders on Friday, June 25 where the ACS (Home) Rebecca Suchiang will take over as CMD of MeECL,” Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said.

According to sources, the government was hopeful to build a stronger team since she is also in charge of finance and there will be good co-ordination.

“We expect MeECL will have a loss of Rs 900 crores this financial year,” he told reporters.

He said that there are dues that the state government has to pay and it has to pay Rs 1300 crores.

“Opposition said that the government should look at streamlining the finances, lets be clear, we are not here to play politics with the situation. Everybody knows that the entire situation has been a culmination of many decisions taken in the past, whether right or wrong, but this is being a culmination of all of that. The reason the pressure is on us is that NTPC and NEEPCO were actually facing problems where they could not even pay the salary and they had to lay-off people,” he said.
