Meghalaya: Man gets life imprisonment for kidnapping, raping and killing minor 

The family of the deceased victim has been granted compensation for Rs three lakh.

NONGSTOIN: 

The Court of Special Judge (POCSO), West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin, on April 23, convicted a man for kidnapping, raping and killing a minor girl on April 29, 2017, at a small hamlet in Meghalaya.

The accused person has been identified as Probit Marak.

The court has sentenced Marak to imprisonment for life with a fine of Rs 50,000 for an offence punishable under section 302 IPC, rigorous imprisonment for 20 years with a fine of Rs 10,000 only for an offence punishable under section 6 POCSO Act and seven years imprisonment with a fine of Rs 5,000 only for an offence punishable under section 363 IPC.

A case was registered at Shallang Police Station vide Shallang PS C/No. 14 (04) 2017 U/S 363/302 IPC.

"On enquiry and because of the immense efforts by police officers and staff of the District, the accused person was arrested immediately and, after a thorough investigation of the case, the Session Court had given a favourable judgement," police said.
