Meghalaya: Man arrested after rape of minor in South Garo Hills

One Jemsbat S Sangma from the village of Jongchetpara was arrested after he was handed over to the police by villagers following a case of rape in South Garo Hills.

Sangma had apparently been caught after a complaint was filed by the girl of the act of sexual assault to the villagers. 

The incident reportedly took place on April 12.

Confirming the incident, Superintendent of police, Rithuraj Ravi stated the accused has been arrested and booked under various sections of the law, including Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 as the victim is a minor. 

The matter is currently under investigation; he added.
