Meghalaya Labour Minister seeks special financial package from Centre for unorganised workers in state

The minister stated that he is looking forward to the generous allocation of funds, guidance, and handholding in the execution of all the developmental schemes initiated by the Union Ministry for the welfare and immediate benefit of all the workers/labourers in Meghalaya.

Meghalaya BJP Minister Sanbor Shullai has requested the Union Minister of Labour and Employment, Bhupendra Yadav to consider a special economic package for the unorganised workers of the state registered under the National Data on Unorganized Workers (NDUW) portal as a "goodwill gesture" on Meghalaya attaining 50 years of statehood in 2022.

Shullai, who is also the state Labour Minister, met the Union Minister in New Delhi on Sunday. “We are also encouraging the unorganised workers/ labourers to obtain an Aadhar card, open a bank account, and link it to their mobile numbers,” said the minister.

Shullai also informed that the state Labour Department will be educating the unorganised workers/labourers about the benefits of Jan Dhan Yojana bank account, Aadhar Card and how to link their cell numbers to the bank account, which was introduced by the Centre to facilitate Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to all the eligible people.
