Meghalaya: Kakwagre village gets water supply under Jal Jeevan Mission

East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Swapnil Tembe, handed over the Kakwagre Water Supply Scheme, sanctioned under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), to the Village Water and Sanitation Committee (VWSC), Kakwagre village at a function organised by the PHE Department on, February 18.

Tembe, who is also the Chairman of the District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM), urged the villagers to ensure the sustainability of the source of water, protection of catchment area and collection of water tariff for the operation and maintenance of the scheme.

The Executive Engineer and the Member Secretary of DWSM, Sujit P Marak, highlighted the roles and responsibilities of the villagers and informed the gathering that as per the guidelines of the JJM, water supply schemes are to be handed over to the respective Village Water and Sanitation Committees (VWSC) for ownership and operation and maintenance of the scheme.

The Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), Public Health Engineering (PHE), TG Momin, informed that Kakwagre is the first village to have the water supply scheme in East Garo Hills district.
