Meghalaya IPR Minister inaugurates Fixed Audio System in Tura



Information & Public Relations Minister James Sangma, on Friday, inaugurated the Fixed Audio System (FAS) in Tura, West Garo Hills.

The programme was attended by West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh, Director and Assistant Director of the Department of Information & Public Relations (DIPR), B.S Sohliya and F.K Marak respectively and other dignitaries.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us the importance of having credible and timely information. Fixed Audio System, will strengthen the mechanism of delivering quick and timely information to the public regarding government orders, policies, subsidies, immunisation drives, health camps and other welfare schemes,” Sangma said.

Sangma lauded the efforts of the DIPR in achieving the milestone and for successfully implementing the project.

“The project will give public communication a facelift to effectively communicate with the citizens of Tura conglomeration area,” he said.

“Last year during the lockdown, many false messages (were) circulated (on) different social media platforms and created confusion and chaos among the public.”

“DIPR was able to carry out the necessary action to successfully implement the Fixed Audio System only after the approval from the CM,” he said.

“This initiative is in line with the vision of the department in publicising different programmes, welfare measures and developmental activities for the benefit of the people,” he added.

Meanwhile, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh stressed on the need to involve different stakeholders to work together with the concerned department to support the government in maintaining public properties across the state.

While addressing the gathering, the Assistant Director, DIPR, F.K Marak, said that no minister had ever visited the DIPR office in Tura for the last 25 years.

“This new advanced audio system will ensure that the department is closer to the public than ever before,” he said.
