Meghalaya: Independent inquiry committee to probe anomalies on ‘rice scam’

The Meghalaya government instituted an independent inquiry into the alleged scam in the implementation of the Supplementary Nutrition Program (SNP) under the Social Welfare Department on Wednesday.

Social Welfare Minister, Kyrmen Shylla informed that the previous supplier, Continental Milkose (India) Ltd, which was tasked with the job of distributing and supplying fortified food products to the state, will be questioned during the probe.

The independent inquiry will be headed by Justice (Retired) Mool Chand Garg and the final report of the inquiry shall be submitted within three months from the issue of the notification.

The interim reports and recommendations will also be submitted to the Meghalaya government from time to time before the finalisation of the report.
