SHILLONG:

Health Minister A.L. Hek on Wednesday said that the government is organising a Special Prayer on May 30 (Sunday) at 12:00 noon for COVID patients and also for the safety of the citizens of the state.

“I have spoken to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and he has agreed to this. We call upon all the citizens of the state belonging to different religions to participate in this special prayer,” Hek said.

He informed that the Special Prayer is for all faiths and individuals alike in their respective places, and the government has requested all citizens to participate in the prayer service.

“It depends on the individuals at what time they want to pray but we kept the timing to 12 noon. The prayers will be conducted at their respective places,” he added.

Stating that COVID cases are 846, while the number of recoveries stands at 752, Hek said that despite the high recovery rate the cases are increasing in the state. He maintained that the protocols will have to be followed to further bring the curve down.

When questioned if the government would declare black fungus as an epidemic, Hek said that there are no cases of black fungus or white fungus in the state as of now, it all depends on the Central Government to declare it as an epidemic as the fungal infection is sporadic.

Replying to a social media message threatening to stage a protest against the COVID imposed restrictions, vaccination, total lockdown and forceful testing, Hek said, “It is the medical experts and the scientists who are to know about COVID-19 and not you and me. Some don’t want to believe in machines and scientific explanation of things."

Those who mislead the people should be booked under the Meghalaya Epidemic Diseases Act, he maintained
