Meghalaya Govt directs health department to address complaints of exorbitant rates by private hospitals

 The government had a detailed discussion to work out a solution to help the patients admitted to different private hospitals.

Following complaints of exorbitant rates charged by private hospitals, the government has directed the health department to bring out all the details and issues to address the grievances within 48 hours.

Addressing mediapersons, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that the government discussed the expenditure met by concerned patients in different private hospitals because of the extravagant rates charged.

He said that the government had a detailed discussion and the Health Department will work out a solution to help the patients admitted to different private hospitals.

“We have also discussed the plight of deceased families who died from COVID-19. This issue is entrusted to the health department to work out what help can be given from the government. The department has been given time till 48 hours,” Tynsong said.`

To ramp up bed capacity, the government has come up with Corona Care Center (CCC) at Rynjah ITI, BTC in Malki and the Directorate of Commerce and Industries.

He said, “We have decided to ramp up more bed capacity in and around Shillong. The health department and other concerned departments have inspected ITI at Rynjah, BTC at Malki and Directorate of Commerce and Industries. These three centers will be made into Corona Care Center which will generate an additional bed capacity of at least 150 beds”.

He said that creation of beds in CHC and PHC levels will also be established, numbering at least 20 beds. 

Temporary markets approved

Tynsong said the Government has approved the following temporary wholesale and retail market.

-Fifth mile farmer’s market run by Market Committee and Marketing Board, Government of Meghalaya.

- 7th Mile Market Umdiengpun run by San Shnong Youth Welfare Association.

- Mawkasiang Football field run by the local dorbar shnong.

- Urkaliar Samkhamti parking Lot run by the owner.

- Shiliang Um at Lawmei run by Shiliang Um Traders Association

- Mawryngkneng, Sohryngkham, and Smit which will be run by Khasi Jaintia Fresh Vegetables Suppliers Association

- Lawai Marbisu to be jointly run by the dorbar and the district administration.

- Laitkor

 He added that ISBT Mawiong has also been identified as a temporary market and said that consultation with concerned stakeholder is still on.

Again, in view of the heavy workload of the District administration, the car passes relating to farming activities will be taken care of by the Department of Agriculture consisting of District Horticulture Officer, District Agriculture Officer and Director and this information would be furnished to the District administration.
