SHILLONG:

Eleven MDCs from the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) have sent a memorandum to the Chief Executive Member (CEM) Benedic R. Marak, urging him to take steps to clear the long-pending dues of the Council staff and to revamp the GHADC for better functioning.

The letter requested the CEM to find alternative ways and means to clear the long-pending dues of the employees of GHADC as soon as possible.

“It is not only the employees of GHADC office who are suffering but due to the Council administration office remaining defunct, business houses, citizens and Garo Hills as a whole is facing the brunt”, the MDCs said.

The MDCs also urged the CEM to take necessary steps to ensure the smooth functioning of the GHADC office and alleviate the problems of the people of Garo Hills.

The GHADC employees are yet to get their salaries pending for close to 30 months.

Even prior to the Council election this year, the GHADC has been reeling under fund crunch, inviting criticisms from several quarters.
