SHILLONG:

As the landfall process for Cyclone Yaas began on Wednesday, Shillong based Eastern Air Command (EAC) has mobilised its assets to prove a quick response in affected areas.

"Eastern Air Command has mobilised its assets for quick response due to the damage and destruction caused by severe cyclonic storm Yaas," the EAC said.

The EAC stated that all rescue and relief operations are being coordinated with the state government and a Task Force has been set up to monitor and synergise the efforts, in addition to coordinating with all agencies.

The IAF has deployed the C130 aircraft at Lilabari for the transport of NDRF load and personnel to Kolkata.

In addition to the IAF personnel engaged in the rescue and relief operations, an Indian Army column is engaged in evacuation and rescue of the civilian population at Orphuli in Howrah.
