Meghalaya: Dy CM launches Covid vaccination drive for 15-18 age group

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, on January 3, launched the Covid-19 vaccination drive for the age group of 15-18 years at Rynjah State Dispensary in Shillong.

Speaking to the press, he said that since 2.6 lakh population of the state fall under the above-mentioned age group, and the government is focusing on them.

Requesting parents to get their wards vaccinated against Covid-19, he informed that dedicated centres have been set up at every Primary Health Centers (PHCs), Community Health Centers (CHCs) for the vaccination drive.

“The population of 15-18 years is more or less 2.6 lakhs and we want to focus on this age group where I am sure we are able to complete within 3-4 months time, but that we leave it to the wisdom of health department if need be we can create more vaccination centres or we can even go down to the village for getting them vaccinated,” he said.

Commenting on the COVID-19 cases in the state, Tynsong expressed confidence that the state government will be able to contain the spread while also assuring citizens that the government will take precautionary measures in place.

“The increase in Covid infections is not that much, and I am sure that we will be able to contain it. But from the government side, we will take things for granted, and if cases increase, everything is already in place where we can go for the challenge,” he said.

As for Omicron, the mutation is high and maybe if required, the government will issue few more instructions, advisories, and restrictions for the safety of people in the state.

Meanwhile, a 17-year-old, Aroma Kharsyntiew, who got vaccinated today, encouraged fellow youngsters to get themselves vaccinated, and not be hesitant for the same, as it is the only thing that will keep them safe from the infection.

“They should definitely go for it, as it be will easier for those who are travelling. There was no fear at all as my parents are vaccinated. It’s very safe and people should not be afraid. They should not be hesitant. Nothing dangerous has happened,” she said.
