Meghalaya: Disaster Management Minister warns public to stay alert on flood-prone areas

Minister-in-charge of Disaster Management Kyrmen Shylla has said that people should be alert and cautious in view of any disaster triggered by heavy rainfall.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, he said that every year the state faces landslide and floods because of heavy rainfall adding that landslide and flash flood which occurred on June 30 under Baghmara and Gasuapara C & RD Block in South Garo Hills district and Mawkyrwat in South West Khasi Hills was because of very heavy rainfall.

According to sources, in South Garo Hills, 22 persons were affected and 1000 people were affected in South West Khasi Hills. 

It may be mentioned there were reports of damage of a wooden bridge in Mawkohphet and houses in South Garo Hills.
