NONGPOH:

Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong on Thursday made a clarion call to the people of Ri-Bhoi and the state to be calm during the fight against COVID-19 for which the total lockdown was imposed to break the chain of infection.

Addressing media persons after a review meeting with the MLAs, MDCs, District Officials being held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall at Nongpoh, Prestone Tynsong strongly appealed to the public to maintain protocols as it is the only precautionary measure to be taken in order to avoid increasing cases, he said.

“The government is compelled to impose the lockdown in the state due to a sharp increase of COVID-19 cases in the state,” he said,

He also lamented that the people in Ri-Bhoi are not aware of the vaccination to protect themselves and a very less percentage was recorded for those above 45 years of age.

As Ri-Bhoi is the most affected district from the sharp spike of COVID-19, Tynsong said that the vaccination for 18 to 44 years of age will soon be announced, encouraging people to come forward and take the vaccination for their safety.

Meanwhile, he also spoke regarding the protocols for handling the dead body of COVID-19 patients that the people should follow strictly, so that the plague would not spread to others and public gathering during the funeral is also strictly prohibited, he added.
