NONGSTOIN | JULY 13, 2020:

A deep crack appeared on a stretch of National Highway 127 B connecting Nongstoin -Tura on Monday Morning.

According to S.E PWD (R) Western Circle, Mr. M. Dhar, the damaged stretch occurred at Nongshram adjacent to the main Nongshram village in West Khasi Hills District.

He added that the road cracked on Sunday night that further led the damaged portion of the road to collapse about one and a half feet with a 50-meter long crack; however, vehicles can pass through this road.

"The reason behind this could not be ascertained yet since the road was spotted with a small crack one week before the incident happened," said Dhar.

However, the PWD department has sent a report in this regard to the office of the CE National Highway to do the needful.

He said that landslides had also occurred in some parts of the National Highway due to the heavy rainfall in the past few days, but the PWD department has tried to clear out the debris to avoid any traffic jams along the National Highway.
