Meghalaya: Congress to move resolution for Speaker's removal in upcoming autumn session

The Congress will be moving a resolution for the removal of Metbah Lyngdoh from the office of Assembly Speaker in the upcoming Autumn Session scheduled to commence from September 10.

The decision was taken after a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in Shillong on Friday.

CLP leader and Leader of Opposition (LO), Dr Mukul Sangma said the letter has been submitted to the Assembly as per Rule 135 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Assembly.

He, however, remained tight-lipped about the reason behind the move saying the details will only be discussed in the Assembly. “We will be looking at issues that will draw the attention of every member of the august house,” he said refusing to divulge much.

Asked about moving the no-confidence (NC) motion, Sangma said that the NC can be decided at the eleventh hour but, a resolution requires a minimum of 14 days’ notice before being tabled in the house.

The signatories of the letter include -- Congress MLAs – Zenith Sangma, H.M. Shangpliang, George B.Lyngdoh, and Kimfa S. Marbaniang.
