SHILLONG:

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that he will discuss the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL)MeECL) imbroglio with his cabinet colleagues.

His statement came a day after the Sangma received a letter from United Democratic Party (UDP) President and Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh, highlighting the issues that need the CM's attention in order to revamp the MeECL.

“I have gone through the letter. I am examining it and I will discuss it with the rest of the cabinet colleagues and will take a call on this," he said.

It may be mentioned that the UDP had written to the Chief Minister, requesting him to institute an independent inquiry to unearth the truth on all the allegations in the Power Department.

“Without putting the blame on anyone now, those at the helm of affairs should be removed forthwith for a free and fair inquiry. Your personal intervention on the matter at the earliest will be highly appreciated," the letter read.

In a letter to the CM, the UDP also said that the allegations in the Power department appear to be of a "serious nature" and warrants immediate intervention so that corrective measures can be put in place to restore and bring about an effective functioning of the department.
